Idea

Recap on what we discussed on Friday:

  1. Obstacle course racing car game with different obstacles & increasing difficulty as the level increases (with minimal controls)
  2. Refer to WY’s blog entry.

Building on WY’s idea, maybe we could simplify the game further so that it uses just 2 buttons to play.

Game scenario

A character balancing a pile of things in each hand starting from left of the screen & moving towards the right.

Your aim

Create earthquake by shaking the room (hit left right button continuously to shake)

Limitations

The intensity of the “shake” is limited. Player has control only as to how fast he/she can hit left/right buttons continuously.

Possible “expansion”

Level 1 – librarian carrying piles of books

Level 2 – waiter carrying plates of food trying to cross the room and there are puddles of water in the room. Tilt the room to try to make the waiter step on the puddle of water and drop all the plates.

Level 3,4,5… – we can think about it again =)

**However this is just a very simple concept, players probably wouldn’t want to return to the game again upon completion. Is the game play innovative?

The "hit the buttons as fast as possible" idea is interesting (but might lead to broken keyboards!) You might want to check out Indigo Prophecy, besides its strong storytelling elements, it has an interesting game mechanic where you have to repeatedly press the left/right PS2 triggers to get through "strenuous" tasks such as climbing or running. It quite effectively makes the player feel the same exhaustion as the character... :)
